Jury Rejects Police Discrimination Case
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A jury has rejected the race and sex discrimination allegations of a former D.C. police commander who filed a lawsuit against the city.
Evelyn Primas sued the city after being told in September 2007 that she faced a demotion from commander to captain, a two-rank drop. The demotion came at a time when the city's police chief was seeking to restructure the department. But Primas, who joined the department in 1978 and became a commander in 2000, contended in her lawsuit that she had been downgraded on the basis of her age, gender and race.
A judge initially ruled against Primas, but her case was reinstated by a federal appeals court last year.
On Friday, a federal jury rejected Primas' claims. Primas' attorneys are appealing the decision.
