John Powers Joined Ed And Steve From Sochi To Discuss The Winter Olympics
John Powers has worked for the Boston Globe since 1973, writing for the Sports, Metro, Sunday, Magazine, and Living sections and sharing the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for national reporting. He has covered sporting events on five continents and is the author of eight books.
John joined Ed and Steve from Sochi to discuss his coverage of the Winter Olympics.
Steve asked John how big of a deal it is that Shaun White didn't win. John says that the weather was sloppy but on a different day with better snow, it is likely that White wins. Its a circumstance of the poor weather.
Ed asked about the top teams in Mens Hockey like the U.S., Canada, Russia and Sweden. John replies by adding that the biggest struggles faced by the U.S. team is that they haven't won a medal outside of North America since 1972 and are playing the Russians in their second game. The U.S. team has never beaten the Russian team outside of the United States so it will be a challenge for them.
