Jeremy Conn: Villanova Wins, Greatest NCAA Game Ever
What and incredible game! This game went back and forth and came down to 2 huge shots from clutch players. This has to go down as one of the greatest National Championship Games ever. I would put the 1983 Championship game between Houston and NC State slightly ahead of it. The way it ended with the tip-in and watching Jim Valvano running around looking for someone to hug was an unreal site.
The shots that Marcus Paige hit to cut the lead to from six to three was huge and the shot to tie the game was off the charts ridiculous. It went from being a possible steal, to an almost blocked shot to a double clutch 3 with the clock winding down. He quote of being an almost hero was heartbreaking after the game. Villanova with about 4 seconds left got the ball down the court quickly and made sure the ball was in the hands of their best shooter. Jenkins drilled a 3 pointer at the buzzer and Villanova was able to cut down the nets. I was at MD Live for our viewing party with Rob Long and the place was going nuts on every play in the last 2 minutes of the game.
Congrats Wildcats.
