Ky. Teen Killed In Md. Shootout Had 6 Guns, Backpack Of Ammo

CORBIN, Ky. (WJZ)--The Kentucky teenager who murdered his family and led police on a high speed chase through parts of the Baltimore area was heavily armed according to investigators.

Derek Valcourt has details on the weapons found and the efforts to help the sole surviving member of that family.

Baltimore County police now say they found 6 guns and a backpack filled with ammunition inside the car that 16-year-old Jason Hendrix was driving.

Police say when 16-year-old Jason Hendrix fled his Corbin City, Kentucky home after shooting and killing his mother, father and little sister Grace--he took with him four .38 caliber handguns, one of them loaded. Along with a loaded 9mm handgun, a shotgun, and a backpack filled with ammunition.

When Maryland police tried to pull him over Saturday for a traffic violation, he led them on a high speed chase that eventually ended when he crashed into another car.

Baltimore County Police say these six officers opened fire killing the teen after he shot one of them, 10 year veteran of the force.

The entire incident has stunned and devastated the Corbin City, Kentucky community where the teen was active in his church.

"We've got several teenagers who were some of Jason's best friends. As we just try to wrap our minds around it, all we're doing as a church is praying with the kids," said  Pastor Drew Mahan, Forward Community Church.

The teen's mom, Dr. Sarah Hendrix, was a professor at Union College in Kentucky.

They issued a statement on their Facebook saying how heartbroken they are over the loss of such a wonderful educator, colleague and friend, and offering thoughts and prayers to the Hendrix family.

19-year-old Lizzie Hendrix is the family's sole survivor. She was away at college when her brother killed her parents and sister.

Lizzie Hendrix released a statement on Wednesday saying, "Our family has been affected by the most horrific of tragedies. All of us are attempting to make sense of this loss. We are buoyed by the love and support of so many of you who knew and loved Sarah, Kevin, Jason and Gracie. Your expressions of thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. We also appreciate the privacy you have given and will continue to give our family as we grieve our the loss of those dearest to us."

A GoFundMe page to help her with the funeral expenses has already raised in excess of $15,000. CLICK HERE to contribute.

"Because her costs through all of this will be astronomical, we're hoping that she's not saddled with any of it," said Mahan.

Police in Kentucky say they're speaking with family and friends and they try to piece together a motive for the shooting.

The teen's mother reportedly told co-workers her son was very upset that his computer privileges had recently been taken away.
