Intruder Hits Pregnant Woman In Stomach With Tiki Torch & Then Stabs Man

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (AP) -- Police say a woman broke into a Takoma Park home and attacked a pregnant woman with a broken tiki torch, then stabbed a man who came to her rescue.

Takoma Park police say the attacker broke into the Flower Avenue home on New Year's Day by pushing in an air conditioning unit after no one answered the door. Police say she then hit the seven-month pregnant woman in the stomach with the tiki torch, a decorative light pole, and stabbed a man, who lives at the home, with another object when he intervened.

The attacker then fled in a taxi.

Police say the man was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, but he is expected to survive. The pregnant woman was treated at the scene.
