Inmate Injured After Stabbing At Md. Prison

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- An inmate at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup has been flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed.

The Capital of Annapolis reports Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials say the stabbing happened Friday afternoon. A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says three homemade weapons were recovered, but no witnesses were reported and the motive is unknown.

Fire officials identified the injured inmate as 42-year-old Winfield Goldring and said he was stabbed multiple times. Corrections officials say Goldring is serving a seven-year sentence for attempted armed robbery and attempted second-degree assault.
