House Fire Leaves 3 Women, 2 Firefighters Injured In Northeast Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A woman clings to life. She's the victim of a fire that swept through her duplex.
Mike Schuh has more.
In all, five people were injured by this blaze: a grandmother, her daughter and granddaughter and two firefighters.
As soon as they arrived on the 2900-block of Glendale Avenue, firefighters had to act fast.
"On one side of the house, there were women, two adult females, hanging out the side windows. Firefighters dispatched ladders and were able to remove, carefully bring those women to the ground floor," said Ian Brennan, Baltimore Fire Department spokesman.
A family member says all three of the women who live in the home are related, and the one most seriously injured lives in the basement and is deaf.
That may explain the extent of her life threatening injuries, as the department says their smoke detector was working.
"She was treated, they performed CPR at the scene, and she was transported as well to Bayview Burn Center," Brennan said.
A relative says the most seriously injured is the grandmother. Her daughter and granddaughter were already sent to Bayview.
The firefighter injuries include a slip and fall and a cut.
Fire department investigators have still not revealed a cause.
