Lansdowne House Fire Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Critically Injured

BALTIMORE (WJZ) —Two people, a man and a woman, were critically injured in a house fire in Lansdowne Thursday morning.

The woman, 67-year-old Susan Jeanne Fox Shipley, has died, WJZ's Devin Bartolotta reports. Her husband is still critical.

"She was a known smoker. The medic crews have been here several times in the past for her," said battalion chief Lonnie Ledford of Baltimore County Fire. "The medic crews reported that she did smoke with her oxygen on. She was known to do that."

Fire crews were dispatched at 7:49 a.m. to the 3200 block of Ryerson Circle, where first responders saw smoke showing from a bedroom window. Unsure if victims were trapped, commanders called for a rescue box and forced entry into the home.

Firefighters physically removed the two victims from the home; both were unconscious and in critical condition. No one else was in the home.

"They opened the door and went right in and [brought] him out and laid him on the front porch at first, and was doing CPR. Then they got him on the stretcher and put him up there in the ambulance," neighbor Kelly Warren said.

"And you could see in that side window right there, you could see that that bedroom was filled with smoke," neighbor Tyler Long said.

An investigation by Baltimore County Police fire investigators is ongoing. A cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
