Hearing Set For Ballots-For-The-Blind Case
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A hearing is scheduled in federal court in Maryland on a lawsuit seeking to require state officials to provide online absentee ballots for the visually impaired.
The hearing is set for Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore before U.S. District Judge Richard Bennett.
The lawsuit was filed by the Baltimore-based National Federation of the Blind.
Attorneys for the state and the plaintiffs are set to discuss ballot security issues.
A separate coalition that includes blind voters and groups advocating for secure, accessible voting technology has filed a complaint to stop the implementation of a Web-based ballot-marking system. That coalition includes the American Council of the Blind of Maryland. Representatives for the coalition also are scheduled to attend the hearing.
