Harford Community College On Lockdown; No Verified Reports Of Shooter
HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Harford Community College in Bel Air is on lockdown Tuesday night.
According to the sheriff, there was a threatening phone call that prompted the lockdown.
The sheriff has said that there have been no verified reports of shots fired or a gunman on campus. No injuries have been reported.
The sheriff's office got a call around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday threatening shootings and bombing sat the college. The sheriff's office teamed up with Maryland State Police and campus police to assess the threat. Once they arrived, they put the school on lockdown. The alert went out for those on campus to lock themselves in their classrooms. Police went through each building to clear out all the students. They say there were about 125 students and teachers on campus.
The sheriff says they are investigating the source of the threat and are searching out leads.
Evacuated students can be picked up at Campus Hills Shopping Center. Students currently on campus are asked to shelter in place and wait for law enforcement.
The sheriff has said that deputies, troopers and campus police will stay on the scene to ensure the campus is safely evacuated.
Again, no shots were fired and no one has been identified on campus with a gun.
