Habitat For Humanity Building 5 Westminster Homes

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County is undertaking its biggest project since its start a dozen years ago.

The Carroll County Times of Westminster reports the organization is building five townhouses for first-time homeowners. The homes will be three stories, 1,640 square feet and have three bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms.

Applicants who want to live in the homes have to be first-time homebuyers and make less than 60 percent of the area's median income. The homeowners will have a 30-year, $140,000 first mortgage with a zero percent interest rate. The average monthly payment will be $750.

In the past, Habitat for Humanity has built two homes, one in 2004 and another in 2008.

Applications for the new homes are due Feb. 15.
