GWU Fraternity Rallies Around Cancer-Stricken Dad

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A George Washington University fraternity is rallying around a member whose father is battling his fourth round of cancer and has been given a year to live.

Delta Tau Delta has raised $8,000 so far to go toward the mounting medical bills of Tom Syron of Chicago. They're also holding a cornhole tournament fundraiser on Sunday and partnering with local businesses to raise money through sales.

Syron's son, Casey Syron, belongs to Delta Tau.

WJLA-TV reports that Tom Syron is battling stomach cancer, which has spread to his liver. He previously was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1988, kidney cancer in 1996, and with his first bout of stomach cancer in 2012.

Tom Syron says his doctors told him his latest round of cancer is incurable but treatable.
