Gov. Wes Moore, other state leaders approve new work zone safety recommendations
BALTIMORE -- Governor Wes Moore and other Maryland leaders approved new work zone safety recommendations Friday afternoon.
The Work Zone Safety group, led by Lt. Governor Aruna Miller, was formed in April after a driver crashed into a work zone on I-695, killing six construction workers. Two drivers were charged in that crash.
The group approved 15 recommendations Friday surrounding safety and reducing work zone deaths.
The recommendations fall into three categories: administrative, budgetary, and legislative and put an emphasis on safety and courtesy on roads, automated speed enforcement, and broadening safety campaigns and education.
"These recommendations, they'll save lives. And we have no time to spare in order to make sure these are actually actionable and it's in that spirit that I am proud to announce that we will begin implementing a few of these recommendations starting right now," Governor Moore announced.
The Work Zone Safety group solicited public input on work zone safety in September, by opening up an online survey.
