Gov. Hogan Requests Business Disaster Declaration After Flooding
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Gov. Larry Hogan has asked the U.S. Small Business Administration for a disaster declaration for Howard County due to flash flooding.
The governor made the request in a letter on Tuesday.
An approved disaster declaration would enable businesses, homeowners and renters to apply for low-interest loans to repair damage from the July 30 storm. The loans could be used to repair or replace real estate, personal property, machinery and equipment and inventory and business assets.
The flooding killed two people and devastated the historic district of Ellicott City.
Russ Strickland, the executive director of the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, says the agency is working with federal partners and Howard County to make sure all applicable forms of federal assistance are made available to residents.
