Gov. Hogan Among 3 GOP Governors Calling For Kavanaugh Vote Delay
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is one of three Republican governors who are reportedly calling for the Senate to delay a vote on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court until sexual assault allegations against him have been fully investigated.
"The governor believes there should be a full investigation prior to the process moving forward in any way," Hogan's spokeswoman Amelia Chasse said.
The Washington Post reported that she added that Hogan thinks the allegations should be reviewed by an independent investigator.
Politico is reporting that Gov. Hogan is joined by Charlie Baker of Massachusetts and John Kasich of Ohio in calling for a delay for the vote.
'Terrified' Christine Blasey Ford On Kavanaugh: 'I Believed He Was Going To Rape Me'
Massachusetts Gov. Baker is calling on fellow Republicans not to proceed with a vote in the Senate to confirm Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Baltimore Sun reporter Luke Broadwater quotes Hogan as saying, "It's very disturbing. It gives me great pause. There are credible charges and big concerns. They need to be heard. They ought to take whatever time it takes to make sure these accusers are heard and he has a chance to respond to them."
Maryland Democratic Party chair Kathleen Matthews issued the following statement:
"Dr. Blasey Ford's accusations against Brett Kavanaugh are credible and extremely disturbing, and Governor Hogan should display the courage of fellow Republicans like John Kasich and Charlie Baker, who are calling on Senate Republicans to delay a vote on his nomination. Dr. Blasey Ford deserves an independent investigation into her credible and deeply disturbing accusations against Brett Kavanaugh.
"Standing with survivors of sexual abuse and assault should rise above partisan politics, and Governor Hogan should have the strength to be the moral leader Marylanders need in this moment."
