Gov.-Elect Hogan To Light Baltimore Menorah
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Hanukkah begins at sundown and Baltimore will celebrate with a menorah lighting in McKeldin Square.
Maryland's Governor-elect Larry Hogan is set to light the 30-foot menorah Tuesday night.
"I can't think of a better way to remind ourselves of the importance of our freedoms - particularly our freedom to worship as we choose - than to participate in this important holiday celebration," Hogan said.
It's the tallest menorah in Maryland.
The festivities will begin with a Menorah Parade from northwest Baltimore to the Inner Harbor and lead by Chabad of Park Heights. The menorah will be lit around 7:15 p.m.
"The Menorah serves as a symbol of Baltimore's dedication to preserve and encourage the right and liberty of all its citizens to worship God freely, openly, and with pride," said Chabad of Downtown's Rabbi Levi Druk. "Specifically this year, as Baltimore commemorates the war of 1812, the Menorah's message takes on profound significance, of the victory of freedom over tyranny."
Last year, the event attracted more than 500 people.
