Gas Prices Continue To Rise Throughout Maryland

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- If it's seemed like every time you drop by the gas station, the price has gone up---you're correct.

Mike Schuh reports the price right now is the highest of the year.

The average gas price has been rising all year. AAA says prices have gone up a penny or more per day in recent weeks.

The three main reasons are: refineries are down for maintenance, the reformulated summer gas has just arrived and American production is down.

"It's all because of crude oil. We're seeing crude oil trading at a five month high," said Christine Delise, AAA Mid-Atlantic.

"I've noticed it going back up," said Susan Hula, who only has one car to fill.

"Oh yeah, it has a huge impact on my business," said Paul Foreman, who fuels a dozen trucks for his paving business. "We can't pass it on to the consumer or the customer of ours. Our vendors hit us with fuel surcharges but I'd be laughed out of the room if I tried to do that with a general contractor or customer.

Foreman says it was a lot worse this time last year.

"As we head into Memorial Day, which is two weeks away, motorists are going to be paying the lowest gas prices in five years. This time last year, we're around a dollar more," he said.

Those predictions of stable prices are based upon no major wars or interruptions in supply.
