Gary Williams Talks Terps And Big Ten Basketball

Hall Of Famer and former Maryland Head Basketball Coach, Gary Williams, joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn today to talk about the 2016 Terps and the Big Ten as a conference.

Coming off of a 70-65 road win over un-ranked Nebraska last night, the Terps are now 20-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play. Jeremy Conn talked about despite all of Maryland's wins, there is still talk of it not being enough since people expect a blowout when the Terps face un-ranked teams. Coach Williams talked about the difficulty to win on the road, "If you play in a major conference, anytime you get a chance to get a road win, they're good wins. I know everybody would like to see Maryland to play great every night but it's very difficult to do that on the road. Their last two games against Ohio State and last night against Nebraska, I think you see how good Maryland is because they might not play at the top of their game but they're still tough enough to go in there and get the wins."

With all of the shuffling in College Basketball rankings this year, it's hard to determine which team is the best in the country. Jeremy Conn asked Coach Williams for who he thinks is the best in the NCAA, "I'd say North Carolina is the best team I've seen. I've seen them in person twice and they have the ability to pound the ball inside just like Maryland does and I think Carolina has won games doing that. Their weakness so far would be their three point shooting but you look at Maryland; very few teams have the combination of a Sulaimon with Melo Trimble who is as good a point guard as there is in college basketball. Then you have two players in the front court that I think they could match up with anybody in the country. When you have that versatility both in guards that can score and inside guys that can score, you're a pretty good basketball team."
