Frederick Woman Guilty In Son's Death

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Frederick woman faces up to 30 years in prison for fatally abusing her 3-month-old son.

Twenty-three-year-old Elizabeth Tramonte was convicted Friday in Frederick of first-degree child abuse resulting in death after entering an Alford plea to the charge. In an Alford plea, a defendant doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges the state has enough evidence to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Sentencing is set for May 15.

Tramonte was charged in the November 2011 asphyxiation death of Blake Tramonte.

Prosecutors say an autopsy and subsequent investigation revealed evidence of physical abuse.
