Former Deputy Gets Probation In Wife's Suicide
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A former courthouse deputy has been sentenced to probation in connection with his wife's suicide using his service weapon.
George Salibi, 50, entered an Alford plea to reckless endangerment Monday in Frederick County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation. An Alford plea means a defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict.
Prosecutors say Grace Breidy Salibi, 44, shot and killed herself with her husband's service weapon on Feb. 27, 2013. A state medical examiner ruled the death a suicide.
The News-Post of Frederick reports that Assistant State's Attorney Steven Kessell said in court that the charge was appropriate because Salibi left a loaded gun open in the home, even though was aware of his wife's emotional state.
