Former Cecil County GOP Treasurer Pleads Guilty To Theft

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A former treasurer for the Cecil County Republican Central Committee has pleaded guilty to felony theft of committee funds.

State Prosecutor Emmet Davitt announced Tuesday that Carrie Lauren Taylor made numerous unauthorized purchases using a central committee debit card and cash from fundraising events while treasurer.

Prosecutors say the purchases included two airline tickets for personal travel, a membership with an online dating website and payment of parking fees at her place of employment.

The state prosecutor says Taylor stole about $8,860 between December 2010 and December 2014.

Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Michele Jaklitsch has deferred disposition of the case until Nov. 17. The judge has restricted Taylor to her residence.

Davitt says committee treasurers must recognize that misuse of committee funds for personal use can't be tolerated.
