Former Baltimore Prosecutor Sues Marilyn Mosby Over Firing

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A former Baltimore prosecutor is suing Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby, accusing Mosby of firing her in January because she backed Mosby's political rival and predecessor, Gregg L. Bernstein.

Keri Borzilleri, now a Prince George's County prosecutor, says in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Baltimore federal court that she had a free-speech right to support Bernstein's re-election without fear of retribution should Mosby win the Democratic primary election, which she did in June 2014.

Borzilleri, who had worked in the office since 2005, says she was given no reason for her termination on Jan. 9, but says a top Mosby official had asked her about her support for Bernstein a day earlier.

In a statement, Mosby's office said it wouldn't "be distracted by disgruntled employees or frivolous lawsuits."
