5 Hurt In 2-Alarm Fire In Locust Point

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Five people, including three firefighters, were hurt in a two-alarm house fire in Locust Point as efforts to battle the blaze were made difficult by bitter cold and a frozen hydrant.

Firefighters were called to the two homes in South Baltimore about 2 p.m. Tuesday and arrived to find smoke billowing from the residences. Officials say one nearby hydrant was frozen shut, and another had frozen water in its well. Firefighters found flowing water at other nearby hydrants.

The five injured people were taken to local hospitals. Officials say the injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
