Fire At New Havre De Grace High School Under Construction Causes $20K In Damage
HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (WJZ) — A fire at the new Havre De Grace High School, which is still under construction, caused $20,000 in damage Friday, the Maryland State Fire Marshal said.
The fire broke out just after 1 p.m. Friday afternoon at the school, located at 445 Lewis Lane.
Smoke was showing and crew found fire on the first floor, which was put out in 10 minutes.
The fire appears to have started in a storage room due to improperly discarded smoking materials, the fire marshal's office said.
Workers smelled smoke and found the fire in a storage room that was being used as a temporary trash room.
The fire was contained to the storage room, while other parts of the building saw smoke and soot damage.
