Fire-Damaged Livestock Auction To Rebuild

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- The owner of the fire-damaged Westminster Livestock Auction says he plans to rebuild.

The Carroll County Times reported Tuesday on the announcement by Earl Gouker, who has owned the building since 2011.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal says a fire last Wednesday caused about $300,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The blaze destroyed offices and damaged the seating areas. The animal pens were largely unscathed.

The damage forced the cancellation of auctions that were held at the building about 10 times a month.
