Fire Crews Respond To Cecil County Apartment Building Fire

ELKTON, Md. (WJZ)-- Fire crews responded to a fire at an apartment building in Elkton, Maryland Thursday afternoon.

Officials say the fire started around 3:30 p.m. at 273 Cherry Hill Road on the third floor of the building in Cecil County.

An occupant on the third floor discovered the fire on his deck/fire place.

Fire officials say the man who discovered the fire discarded a cigarette into a makeshift ashtray made of wood.

Seventy-five firefighters responded to the scene.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury and went to the hospital, another sustained an injury and refused treatment.

Twenty occupants were displaced as a result of the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
