Fire Breaks Out At West Baltimore Home Of Rep. Cummings

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Authorities say a fire broke out at Rep. Elijah Cummings' West Baltimore townhouse, but no one was home.

Fire department spokesman Samuel Johnson Jr. says firefighters called to the home on Madison Street around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday found smoke coming from the roof of the three-story brick home.  They were able to control the blaze by 11 a.m.

Johnson says no one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured. The cause is under investigation.

An aide says the Baltimore Democrat was in Washington at the time and is fine.
