Fire At Fort Washington Apartment Building Displaces 27

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (AP) -- A fire at a Fort Washington apartment building is forcing 27 residents out of their homes.

Prince George's County fire department spokesman Mark Brady says the fire Saturday afternoon damaged the top floor units and the building's roof. There were no reports of injuries.

Firefighters were called to the three-story garden style apartment building on Palmer Road about 12:30 p.m.

Fire investigators determined a malfunctioning furnace caused the fire.

Brady says 22 adults and five children from 11 apartments will be displaced. The apartment complex is working to find vacant homes for the affected residents.
