Police Looking For Hit-And-Run Driver In Fatal Crash Outside Owings Mills Elementary School
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County police are asking for help finding a driver involved in a fatal crash involving a pedestrian outside Owings Mills Elementary School Saturday night.
The crash happened around 11:10 p.m. Saturday when a southbound Kia Forte hit a pedestrian, later identified as Daveyon Jakim Barnes, 21, in the 10800 block of Reistertown Road.
A second vehicle. a lighter colored sedan, hit Barnes and fled the scene, police said. The Kia's driver stayed at the scene.
Barnes, aka, "Doc", of Owings Mills, was taken to Shock Trauma where he died just before 7 a.m. Sunday.
Police are asking the sedan's driver to come forward.
Mount Saint Joseph High School, Barne's alma mater, released a statement Monday afternoon on his death:
"The Mount Saint Joseph community is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our own brother, Daveyon "Doc" Barnes. Doc is a member of Mount Saint Joseph's Class of 2016 and was on the varsity basketball team all four years of high school. Our prayers go out to Doc's mother, other family members, and friends. We will rally around them and do our best to help them heal during this extremely difficult time,"
His basketball coach, Pat Clatchey, said he had a very outgoing and contagious personality. Clatchey said he was well-liked and respected.
"He had a unique ability to get along with people from all walks of life. On the basketball court, Doc played with energy, competitive spirit and toughness. We are truly saddened by the passing of our brother and teammate," Clatchey added.
