Man Fleeing Police Crashes On I-95 Near Laurel, Dies
LAUREL, Md. (WJZ) -- A man is dead after crashing a vehicle on Interstate 95 while leading police on a high-speed chase near Laurel Thursday afternoon, police said.
Howard County Police said officers were called to the 9100 block of All Saints Road around 2:17 p.m. for a report of drug activity in a vehicle.
When officers arrived, the driver reportedly sped off, getting onto northbound Interstate 95 at Route 216. The driver then tried to make an illegal U-turn onto southbound I-95, lost control and was hit by a tractor-trailer.
21-Year-Old Passenger In Laurel Crash On I-95 Dies
Howard County Police identified the driver as 24-year-old Malik Emmanual Britton of Laurel. Jonathan Asare Somuah of Silver Spring was identified as the passenger. Both succumbed to their injuries.
The tractor-trailer driver and the driver of a third vehicle that was run off the road by the chase were both taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Interstate 95, which was closed for hours as police investigated the crash, reopened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
