Family Seeks Volunteers To Help Build Memorial Park For Deceased Baby Boy

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Ryan Szcybor was only on this Earth for 18 months before he was taken by cancer, but his memory will live on in the form of an all-inclusive, 16,000 square foot park in Perry Hall.

Angel Park is being built as an all-inclusive playground. The firm that helped design it describes that as "a fun-filled place where children can play together with their peers, family, friends, and neighbors without experiencing physical or social barriers to inclusion."

Ryan's parents got the idea to build a playground in their son's memory because they helped build another local playground named after a child who left the world far too soon -- Annie's Playground in Fallston. Annie McGann Cumpston was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2003.

After getting the land as a donation from the county, and over $1.5 million in donations, the Szcybors need just one more thing to make the park a reality. Over 10 days this summer, July 8 through July 18, they will need about 2,000 volunteers.

"We're going to be providing child care for those coming to help to work so we need people focused on children. So just because you don't know which end of the hammer to hold doesn't mean you're not valuable."
