Families Start New Year's Early In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --- It's a big day at the Maryland Science Center. It's "Midnight Noon." Ron Matz has more on Wednesday's early start to the new year.

There's nothing like a trip to the hurricane simulator to wrap up the old and ring in the new. Midnight Noon at the Maryland Science Center is a New Year's party. It just happens much earlier in the day.

"It's a a fun day. It's a good way to celebrate. The kids can come down and celebrate New Year's a little early. I think the families really enjoy it," promotions coordinator for the Maryland Science Center, Molly Melendez said.

Catherine Husson and her family are having a ball.

"We come here several times a year. We're members. This is the first time we've done this activity. It's been a blast and we're having a great time," Husson of White Marsh said.

They're expecting more than 3,000 people at the Maryland Science Center on Wednesday for an early New Year's celebration.

The big crowds head for the room where people are making snow globes.

"We just made one of these snow globes. They're free so it's nice for the kids to go to a New Year's Eve event. It's just been awesome," Keith Merritt of Delaware said.

There's small works of art for kids of all ages ringing in the new year with science and a whole lot more.

"My family, we're all going to meet up here and have a good time," Dylan Martin of Towson said.

The parents and kids were also treated to a performance by the Grammy-nominated group, "Milkshake."
