Ex-Corrections Officer At D.C. Jail Sentenced For Bribery
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A former corrections officer has been sentenced to more than 2 years in prison for taking bribes to smuggle contraband into a Washington jail.
Fifty-two-year-old Darren Malry of Laurel, Maryland, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Washington.
Prosecutors say Malry had worked for Corrections Corporation of America as a corrections officer at Washington's Correctional Treatment Facility. CCA, a private company, has a contract to provide services to the facility.
Authorities say on March 11, 2014, Malry met with an undercover FBI agent who gave him a cellphone, cigarettes and rolling papers for Malry to deliver to an inmate at the facility. Malry accepted $750 to deliver the contraband.
