Elections Official: Noncitizens May Be Voting In Md.
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A state elections official says it's possible that some non-U.S. citizens are voting in Maryland.
Voter Registration Director Mary Cramer Wagner tells The Frederick News-Post that state and local election boards have no system for verifying the citizenship of voter registration applicants.
The issue was raised in a lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore by vote-fraud activists. They say they found evidence that noncitizens are registered to vote in Frederick County. They say their allegation is based on a comparison of voter registration records and lists of people excused from jury duty because they declared they were not U.S. citizens.
On Thursday, plaintiffs' attorney Daniel Gray withdrew a motion to have the voter rolls purged of noncitizens before Tuesday's election.
