Education Spells Success For Altruistic Top Hospital Executive In Baltimore

Charitable giving and altruism are at the core of many great leaders here in Baltimore. As the President of Medstar Union Memorial Hospital and Sr. Vice-President of Medstar Health, Bradley S. Chambers embraces such spirit of leadership by continuing to ensure that giving back remains at the top of his 'to do' list. Born and raised in Baltimore, Mr. Chambers received a Master's degree in Health Care Administration from Towson University. He actively chairs a branch of Big Brothers Big Sisters and serves in other charities statewide.

What are your greatest educational achievements to date?

"Earning a masters degree in Health Care Administration has been an important element to getting in the door. It's the entry ticket. Absorbing and implementing what I've learned from an entry-level position to where I am now best speak to my achievements."

How has your degree helped you achieve your career goals?

"Earning degrees put me on a corporate career path that has enabled me to lead a staff, manage a budget and impact the direction of a hospital responsible for the health and well-being of thousands of patients every year. "

What inspires you to succeed in your career?

"The late great Nelson Mandela said, 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.' I believe every incrementally positive advancement we see in the health care industry is for the greater good. I am propelled by the medical advancements made by the research we do, our positive clinical outcomes and quality bedside care. MedStar Union Memorial Hospital has a significant historical impact in medicine and I am inspired to continue that legacy with solid leadership and direction."

As a leader in the health care industry, what advice do you have for others who would like to follow in your footsteps?

"My best advice is to embrace a mentor and be a mentor. This is an industry that is constantly and quickly evolving, and I find that the more I learn, the more I have to teach."
