Teen Suspects In Custody After Police Say They Rammed Cruiser With Stolen Jeep
DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- Several teens were taken into custody Monday night in Dundalk after they allegedly rammed a Baltimore County Police cruiser with a stolen Jeep.
WJZ has exclusive video of the incident which began around 5:33 p.m. in the 8200 block of Shore Road.
Officers in Baltimore County searched for the teenage suspects in the area of Lynch and Dineen streets. Within the hour, police towed away the heavily damaged police car that's now a key part of their investigation.
The good news is that the officer in the cruiser was not hurt, but it's deja vu for the department, who saw one of their own run down in a similar situation just six weeks ago.
A swarm of Baltimore County police officers, with Foxtrot, overhead, closed in on six teenage suspects.
"So I go to look out front, and I bet you there was a hundred cops, running down the street," said Amy Fletcher, a neighbor.
Four blocks from the neighborhood spectacle, a police car was battered, sitting in a ditch along Shore Road.
Police say this is where the drama began, when the teens piled into a stolen Jeep and tried to get away from police.
They believe four to six occupants were inside the car at the time of the incident.
Brian Hosier says he knew something was wrong when a suspect came running.
"I seen a young white kid take off running. Chased after him, up through the alleys, through yards and ended up tackling him over on Ewald," Hosier said.
The suspects then all bailed and ran in different directions.
I don't even have any words. I'm speechless. I'm shaken right now," Fletcher added.
A massive search that ended with high schoolers in handcuffs.
Police haven't said if all the teenagers are in custody, but say they do have the driver.
One of the suspect's fathers told us off camera his son is just 16 years old.
A source tells WJZ the Jeep was stolen this morning, about one mile from tonight's crime scene.
