Dundalk Knights of Columbus Serves Up Its Famous Fish Fry For Charity
DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ)—Something special is happening for lent in Dundalk. It's an annual event which helps raise money for charity.
Ron Matz has more on a team of volunteers and their world famous Fish Fry.
The friers are working overtime until the fish and steak fries are golden brown. It's the ninth annual Famous Fish Fry at the Knights of Columbus in Dundalk.
"We're getting ready for a big day today. We serve the best fish in Maryland, and we're all volunteers," said Joe Witomski, Dundalk Knights of Columbus.
The money raised will go to charity.
"It's all done for charity. We have a special fund. We take a dollar out from each meal to go into that fund," Witomski said.
The fish is from Alaska, but the feelings are warm when the diners arrive.
"Oh it's great. It's a beautiful feeling. They all enjoy themselves, and it's for a reasonable price," said John Cosentino, volunteer.
You get a great meal--just $11 to eat in, $12 for carry out.
"You get Alaskan Pollock fish, steak fries, cole slaw, a roll and butter and dessert," Witomski said.
"Well, it makes me feel great. But at the end of the day, I can't wait to sit down because we work our tails off. We work very hard," said Connie Witmoski, volunteer.
They remember those who volunteered here in the past. It's a labor of love for the folks who call themselves the "we team."
"Every week I have the same crew. I call it the 'we team.' We work hard. It's from Ash Wednesday to Good Friday," Joe Witomski said.
The Dundalk Knights of Columbus fundraiser continues Fridays through Good Friday on April 18.
