Draft Recap With Michael Felder
Michael Felder, a college football analyst for Bleacher Reporter, joined Scott and Jeremy for some post draft talk. The undrafted free agent process is in full swing with the NFL and the recruitment of the undrafted free agents. Jeremy brought up the example of Jordan Lynch, former Heisman candidate with Northern Illinois University, signed with the Chicago Bears as a running back. Michael talked about the struggles that these free agents have to deal with a long with the possibility of playing special teams. "If they want to get on the field they better find something that they can do and do it well. A lot of these guys have never played special teams before, especially haven't played in the core roles in terms of going down field and tackling people, so its always interesting to see how they make it work."
One of the first players brought up was local product Michael Campanero, a graduate of River Hill High School in Columbia and a wide receiver from Wake Forest. "Hes a good football player, hes one of those guys and I hate to say it because it sounds so cliche when you talk about a white wide receiver, he runs good routes, hes got good hands, an d he knows what he is doing on the field. I think alot of people sell his athleticism short."
Conversation then shifted to the current state of college football. The Big 12 and ACC both submitted legislation to the NCAA asking that teams with 12 teams and 2 divisions no longer be required to hold conference championship games. Michael belives each conference has different reasons to try to pass this legislation. "I think for the ACC, they're looking at it and they're thinking if we don't have to have this game, don't have it. Then we don't have to have a Florida State or a Clemson be trotted out there and lose to a team from the Coastal thats you know 8-4. You look at it from the Big 12 where they can have a championship while they only have 10 teams instead of 12."
