Teen Girl Killed, Downed Trees And Outages Confirmed Following Severe Weather
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Baltimore County police confirmed that a 14-year-old girl has died in an accident on Pot Spring Road and Deer Fox Lane in Lutherville, Thursday, following severe weather in the area.
Officers say after 5:30 p.m. a tree fell on top of a Hyundai Sonata traveling south on Pot Spring Road with four people inside.
Officials say a crane was used to remove the tree.
Fire crews then located the deceased 14 year old and 16- and 13-year-old girls, who were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver, who was identified as the mother of the deceased girl, was transported to the hospital also with non-life threatening injuries.
Aside from usual flooding in North Baltimore, there was also hail in Towson.
A down power wire also temporarily shut down the northbound lane of I-83.
BGE responded to the scene.
Traffic attempting to get on 83 North near Seminary Avenue was forced to do a U-turn onto the southbound lane of 83.
One lane was open on 83 South at the time.
Captain Jeff Long reports that trees have fell on cars and completely blocked Dulaney Valley Road.
A tree also was knocked down in Roland Park on Bellemore Road.
There were reports of another injury at Pine Ridge Golf Course where a golf car was smashed and dozens were destroyed.
In Lutherville, neighbors believe damage was caused by a tornado.
"I've never been in a storm like this ever. I'm feeling like it had to be something like a tornado. I mean I've never ever seen a storm that intense," Rob Runk said. "You just started hearing boom boom things cracking things being thrown things being moved around."
"50, 60 miles an hour I could imagine for something that big that is a gigantic tree," Todd Bilger said. "The tree that snapped off here and branches just flew out and landed on my power line going to my house. So you're out of power, yeah and it got ripped off the side of my house."
