Detectives Investigate Shooting Death Of Woman In Baltimore County Parking Lot
BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County police are investigating the shooting death Thursday of a woman at the Catonsville Plaza shopping center.
Police say officers were called to the shopping center on Baltimore National Pike about 1 p.m. in response to a shooting. Once they arrived, officers found 27-year-old Diamond Trueheart shot in the parking lot. She died at the scene.
Cedrick Holloway, Trueheart's uncle, said the family is devastated. Now, he says, they're searching for answers.
"I'm just really confused," said Cedrick Holloway, Trueheart's uncle. "I want peace.. and I want to know why my niece got shot in the head."
Holloway said his sister and Trueheart work at a salon in the plaza, and they were walking out of work when they heard gunshots. He said Trueheart ran one way and his sister ran the other way.
"They don't know where it came from or why," Holloway said.
He described his niece as a mother, sister and aunt with a heart that shined bright.
"Diamond was just like a pillar in our family," he said. "She held it together, she was like the glue."
People who live nearby say its unusual to hear about a shooting in the area.
"You just don't hear that much here in this area, so it was really shocking," Debra Dorsey told WJZ. "It's been almost 50 something years I've lived in this area... but I've never had any trouble until these last five to six years. I'm scared."
Some say they're concerned of the recent violence and something has to be done.
"It's getting to a point where you're afraid to even go outside the door," Michael Appler said.
While Diamond's family works to heal from this tragedy, they say they want justice to be served.
"We lost a sparkle in our family, so it's just a dark cloud right now," Holloway said.
Baltimore County police say detectives are looking into whether or not this was a targeted incident.
