Deputy Kills Pedestrian In Hagerstown
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office says a deputy is on paid administrative leave after his unmarked patrol car struck and killed a pedestrian in Hagerstown.
The agency says Deputy First Class Bryan Teets was driving east on U.S. 40 at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday when his car hit the woman in the 1300 block, about 10 blocks east of the downtown area.
Spokeswoman Carly Hose says Teets and other deputies rendered first aid. She says the victim was taken to the nearby Meritus Medical Center, where she died.
Hose says the agency is withholding the victim's name at the family's request.
She says Maryland State Police are assisting the sheriff's office in the investigation. Hose says their findings will be reviewed by the state's attorney's office for possible charges.
