DC Fire Lieutenant To Be Laid To Rest On Friday

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A District of Columbia firefighter who died after battling a high-rise apartment fire will be laid to rest on Friday.

The DC Fire and EMS Department announced funeral arrangements on Sunday for Lt. Kevin McRae, who died Wednesday morning.

Following the funeral on Friday morning at the D.C. Armory, McRae will be buried at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Maryland.

The 44-year-old McRae joined the department in 1989 after serving as a fire cadet in high school. He was the 100th District firefighter to die in the line of duty.

McRae collapsed after helping to extinguish the fire and descending the stairs of the burning building. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. A cause of death has not been determined.
