D.C. Groom-To-Be Killed After Car Hits Him, Fiancee

MARYLAND CITY, Md. (AP) -- The U.S. Park Police says a Washington, D.C., couple engaged to be married were hit by a car as they changed a tire, killing the groom-to-be.

Sgt. Lelani Woods says a car hit the 38-year-old Rick Warrick and his fiancee around 9:15 p.m. Sunday as they changed a tire on the Baltimore Washington Parkway north of Route 197 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

Warrick died. His fiancee, 28-year-old Julia Pearce, was taken to Baltimore's Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Woods says the couple were completely on the shoulder of the roadway when they were hit. The car that hit them fled.

Woods says Pearce didn't get a good look at the car, and no witnesses have reported seeing the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-610-8737.
