Cummings, Ruppersberger, Still Mum On Senate Bids

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Reps. Elijah Cummings and C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger say they plan to make announcements in the near future about potential bids for Senate.

Cummings and Ruppersberger declined to say Monday what they plan to do. Ruppersberger says he has been talking with Cummings.

Both men are Democrats who represent parts of Baltimore and the surrounding areas. They are weighing whether to run for the seat held by retiring Sen. Barbara Mikulski in 2016.

A Baltimore pastor abruptly quit his campaign for Cummings' congressional seat last week, saying Cummings told him he was running for re-election to his House seat.

Reps. Chris Van Hollen and Donna Edwards already are running in the Democratic primary for Mikulski's seat.
