Man seriously injured in downtown shooting part of violent Baltimore weekend

BALTIMORE - A man was seriously injured in a shooting which prompted a large police presence Saturday afternoon in downtown Baltimore.

Police responded to the shooting around 3:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Marion Street. Police said a man was unresponsive at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Homicide detectives were notified due to the severity of the man's injuries.    

Police blocked off Park Avenue, from Lexington Street to CFG Bank Arena, while they investigated.

A crowd was outside the arena waiting for the Stevie Nicks concert. The police presence impacted traffic downtown.

"I saw that it was closed off, and I also saw police over there," said Shawn Tarrell. "When I came up here, I saw this crazy mess."

Less than a half-mile away, and 15 minutes later, in the 400 block of East Baltimore Street, a woman was arrested after getting into a shoot out with an off-duty police officer. The woman fired a shot during a road rage incident before shooting at the officer, who fired back.

"Just another day in Baltimore," Tarrell said. "I wish it would change though."

On Friday night, two men were killed in a shooting on Kathland Avenue in Northwest Baltimore.

An hour earlier, in West Baltimore, police fired at two people fleeing from a liquor store where a 31-year-old man had just been shot.

"It was another wonderful job by our officers, hearing the discharge and going toward the area, probably saving the life of a victim who had been shot at least once," Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said.

According to authorities, police found one of the suspects in a getaway car and arrested him. But the other suspect is still at large.

"As the suspects were fleeing, they gave chase and made at least one arrest," Worley said. "Hopefully we will catch the second suspect."
