COVID In Maryland: Walk-Up Appointments Available At M&T Bank Stadium COVID-19 Vaccine Site

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Walk-up appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine started at M&T Bank Stadium on Friday morning.

Momo Hartley and her friend, Anais, waited three hours at the stadium on the first day the state made the walk-up appointments available.

"They're moving people through pretty quickly," Hartley said. "I felt lucky about it. So we got here really early, and yeah, just lucky to get in."

Jamilia Samuels said she hopes to convince her boyfriend to make an appointment.

"He needs to go get the shot," Samuels said.

According to officials, 200 doses will be available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily, except for Orioles game day.

Walk-up times and capacity are likely to change over time, officials said.

CORONAVIRUS COVERAGE:

Any updates to the schedule, in addition to public transit information, can be found on the University of Maryland Medical System's main M&T Bank Stadium Mass Vaccination Site webpage.

No appointments are necessary for the walk-up slots, and individuals should be prepared to wait, officials added.

The state added more than 1,800 cases Friday, the most since January. Hospitalizations are at their highest point in nearly two months.

On the vaccine front, the State Department of Health reports more than 82,000 Marylanders received a dose of the vaccine Thursday. That's the highest number so far.

"The number of cases we're seeing every day is still dangerously high, and there is still potential for the spread of this virus to outpace our efforts to vaccinate people," Jennifer Nuzzo, of Johns Hopkins University, said.

Gov. Larry Hogan said Friday the state will continue to see fewer doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

Maryland opened two new mass vaccination sites this week and will open two more next week.

"We're making great headway," Gov. Hogan said. "We built this incredible infrastructure that can handle way more vaccines. The last thing we wanted to hear about was we're getting less vaccines."
