Community Leaders Try To Diffuse Baltimore Violence
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The eyes of the world are on Baltimore as we begin to recover from this violence.
Marcus Washington has more.
This is unbelievable for a lot of people; that's the word everyone used when they walked by. People in the neighborhood say they will rebuild.
"I'm sick of it, man," said one man. "You don't get nothing accomplished like this."
"I think this proves the point of what needs to take place here in Baltimore," said Dr. Dante Hickman, pastor of a church in Baltimore. "This wasn't just a fire. This is a ligth that's shining on the real issues in our community."
In West Baltimore, Reverend Al Sharpton has come to Baltimore, calling for non-violence. He says we should be fighting the violence and not adding to it.
"I think coming out here and not waiting for anyone to come help us," said a man.
The senior facility that burned was mostly complete. The Baltimore Teachers' Union came by and gave the church a $5,000 check to help them rebuild.
