Thousands Try To Beat The Heat For A Jam-Packed Weekend At Artscape

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's one of Charm City's coolest event, but on Saturday, the heat was on at Artscape. Hundreds came out despite an earlier heat advisory in effect.

Well the first day of Artscape has undoubtedly been a scorcher but people have been making due finding every which way to stay cool"

The unbearable heat didn't hinder hundreds from checking America's largest free arts festival -- also known as Artscape.

It's a hot summer attraction both in popularity and temperature.

"In the evenings you may not need shades large or small but it still considerably muggy and people are still trying to ways to keep cool."

Experienced visitors came prepared.

"I came in the evening this time to avoid the heat on purpose," says Artscape visitor Claire Kelloway.

Others much like myself take full advantage of numerous cool down stations put out by companies and the fire department.

"How long have you been standing in here? About five more minutes than you have," says Artscape visitor Chuck Linton.

Of course, one can't enjoy Artscape confined to a single spot.

Especially when there's also so much food to enjoy, and you can imagine icy treats are a big hit.

"You guys got one of the best spots, you're literally in a truck full of ice."

"Everybody loves Kona Ice. It's good weather for a snowball."

For fans of art, there are also fans being handed out by community organizations.

There's plenty to see and do at Artscape.

It's an event that draws hundreds of thousands to the city and has brought in an estimated cool 28 and half million, which is not bad during these dog days of summer.

In the end, if you can't beat the heat perhaps it's best to think chilly thoughts after all the art here is pretty cool.

Artscape lasts through this weekend.
