Heat Advisory, Code Orange Air Quality Alert In Effect
BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) -- The National Weather Service has issued a code orange air quality alert for Friday for the Baltimore metro region, warning Maryland residents about potentially unhealthy conditions.
A heat advisory is also in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Friday for Baltimore city.
This means heat index values will be around 100 degrees due to temperatures, which will be in the low to mid 90s.
There's a risk of heat related illness for those without air-conditioning or those outdoors for an extended period of time.
A code orange means there are air pollution concentrations that may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. These groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly.
If you're spending time outdoors Friday, take extra precautions. Reschedule strenuous activities if possible to early morning or evening. Drink plenty of water and wear light colored clothing.
