Charles County Commissioner Apologizes For DUI

WALDORF, Md. (AP) -- A Charles County commissioner is apologizing after he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Democrat Reuben Collins, who is vice president of the Charles County Board of Commissioners, issued a statement Sunday saying he had wine with dinner with his family on Thursday evening. He says he made an error in judgment by then driving to his office.

Collins says he is asking for forgiveness from family, friends and the people of Charles County.

Collins has been a county commissioner since 2006, representing the Waldorf area.

The county sheriff's office says Collins was pulled over Thursday night after an officer saw him driving erratically. Collins failed field sobriety tests, and a breath test revealed that his blood-alcohol concentration was over the legal limit of .08 percent.
